Done Deal: Versatile Defender Agrees 4.5-Year Chelsea Deal, Conte Pleased With Star
Talking about reward for impressive performance, Chelsea have handed Denmark and Chelsea tough-tackling centre-back Andreas Christensen a brand new four and half year contract extension deal, this is according to the Times.
The 21-year-old star joined Chelsea in the February of 2012 on a free transfer but struggled to break into the first team. While he shone for the u23 side and scantily featured for the senior team of Chelsea, Borrussia Monchengladback had an eye on him. He spent the previous two seasons on loan with the said Bundesliga side and improved his game.
It takes barnstorming and consistently impressive performance for a player in the B team of Chelsea to break into the first team. Christensen is one of the few that has shattered the odds to play for Chelsea from the academy. He is currently preferred over David Luiz, churning 22 appearances in all competitions this term ahead of new signing Antonio Rudiger.
Christensen who can play in different positions across the back is one of Conte’s favourites – the Club’s direct has expressed surprise at the meteoric rise of the player, which has earned him the new contract.
“This contract is reward for the excellent form Andreas has shown in the first half of the season,” club director Marina Granovskaia. “He showed immense potential when he signed for Chelsea in 2012 and is now enjoying the benefits of the dedication and professionalism he has shown since.
“After two seasons on loan in Germany we were convinced he was ready to be a part of the squad this season and he has grasped the opportunity with both hands. We are delighted he has chosen to commit his future to Chelsea and we look forward to four-and-a-half more successful years with Andreas at the club.”
The story of Christensen is now classified as success from the academy of the club. There a chunk of 21-year-old stars that are on loan from Chelsea.
