Reason why David Luiz will not sign for Barcelona in January

David Luiz has been linked to Barcelona in the last few weeks, adding to previous transfer window speculations but fresh reports reveal the Catalunya club may pass up the opportunity to sign him up this January.

The center back has been out of favor at Chelsea after his feud with manager Antonio Conte and has been left out of games recently. Luiz has missed exactly the last 10 Premier League games which proves his ostracizing from the first team, although a confirmed knee injury has played its part in his absence.

His place at the center of the three-man defense has been taken by the young and budding Andreas Christensen who has won many hearts since his injection into the Blues starting 11.

With Luiz’s days numbered at Stamford Bridge, a January move would seem likely, however one of the top clubs linked with him, Barcelona, are set to pull the plugs on the deal, as he will not be eligible for Champions League games this season, having played for Chelsea.

According to the Express, the Brazil international will have to look beyond the winter transfer window in order to secure a move to any of the top European clubs ready to sign him.
