Chelsea boss Conte demands one thing from defender

Don’t stop scoring

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has told Marcos Alonso that he needs to carry on scoring – and is helping the side with far more than just his defending.

Conte made it clear that he was happy after the win and that he thinks his players are giving it all for the cause – and over the Christmas period, the Blues have seen the gap between themselves and Manchester United cut to a single point, and have second place in their sights.

Standard Sport report he said: “It was positive to score for Alvaro [Morata]. He’s our No.9. Against Everton, he didn’t play.

“Also Alonso, to score five goals up to now, for a wing-back, is a great achievement. But it’s important to continue. Not to stop scoring.

“We need this alternative from our striker and our No10. But we must be pleased with all my players. The commitment of my players was great.

“I was very happy, also, after the game against Everton with our performance, but we didn’t win against Everton. Today we scored. If we learn to be more clinical, and to try to exploit the many chances we have during games, it will be better for us.”

LUIZ

One defender who Conte isn’t so keen on speaking about is David Luiz, who could well be off this winter – and even if he makes it past January, Luiz may look to leave in the summer.

It seems that he disagrees with Conte on key aspects of the club, and may even push for the exit door this winter, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid mentioned as possible suitors after he was dropped by the Chelsea boss for disagreeing with him and then failing to win his place in the side back.

It’s already hard enough for Luiz to try and get into the Brazil side, and he knows that if he’s sat on the bench or in the stands for Chelsea, he will have no chance of going to Russia in the summer of 2018 for the World Cup.
