The Tottenham playmaker was filmed showing the middle finger during the Three Lions’ win over Slovakia at the start of the week, claiming it was merely a joke between himself and compatriot Kyle Walker.
And while Spurs are not set to take any action against Alli, world football’s governing body are not as lenient and are set to sanction the 21-year-old.
That means Alli is facing an international ban which would likely rule him out of England’s last two World Cup qualifiers, although the blow has been somewhat cushioned for Gareth Southgate’s side as they sit five points clear of the top with two rounds of fixtures remaining.
The Englishman is, however, expected to feature for Tottenham when they take on Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon [16h00 kickoff].
