WHAT EVERY RAPPER NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

“The World is not fair, the music industry is messed up, music labels are F%cked up and A&R’s are the worst people to do music business with”

Yea, I hear that a lot from every rapper and singer who is underground nowadays! It seems like there is a beef between artists and some A&R’s. Anyway, am sure you are already wondering what does EVERY RAPPER & SINGER NEED TO KNOW? Stay tuned!
Most underground artists when it comes to the music biz and the way they handle their music issues, it seems like they just depend on luck! And when they don’t see any results they blame the world for being so fucked up, they blame the DJ’s for not playing their music, they blame A&R’s and the major labels for not signing them but signing WACK Rappers and Singers and to make the list short, they blame the MUSIC INDUSTRY for being so wack and not recognizing their talents! I feel their voice sometimes because I know how it feels. A lot of mainstream artists make money on tours, concerts, iTunes etc and most mainstream artists make a lot of bread than doctors nowadays! But if you’re not deaf like me, then you obviously hear mainstream artists that sound like garbage all over MTV and become more famous than those with REAL TALENT. I don’t even listen to the radio anymore because most of the mainstream artists are just garbage and most of them aren’t really talented!
But wait… if they aren’t talented, then how the hell did they make it?
And that is what we are going to talk about in this article!

There is just one thing that most underground artists don’t understand, they think that their TALENTS alone will get them signed one day but thinking that you can make it in the music industry just by your talent alone is like a girl thinking she can keep a man just by her pretty looks!
To cut the long story short, the music industry is made up of:
50% Relationships
40% Business
10% Talent!
Learn and Follow The Rules!
So let’s take a look at them in details.

#1: 50% Relationships
Who would you share your bread with? A person you just mete yesterday or your friend you’ve known for 1 year? That’s right! 50% of the music industry is made up of relationships which means you NEED TO KNOW as many people as possible in the music Industry and make relationships with them, don’t just go to someone when you need something from them. If I were one of the Judges on American Idols I would definitely keep the artists I know stay in the competition than the ones I’ve never heard of, its all about relationships so Be social and network with people that can connect you with more people. Sometimes it’s not about WHAT you know but WHO you know that matters.
We all know a lot of people but do they know you? That’s the main point… I’m trying to nail into your head full of music. Network with people whether it’s on facebook or twitter but don’t just network within the same circles. Get off the internet and network in person with A&R’s, DJ’s etc Attend music seminars, attend music showcases and music battles. The problem is that most underground artists are just relying on the internet to get heard, just because Soulja boy and Hitboy were discovered by music executives via internet, it doesn’t mean it will work for you too. You can’t follow a star’s blueprint and expect it to work for you, each path is different, create your own story. Get off that computer or smart phone and network in person, create business cards. You have to be constantly GRINDING no matter what.

#2: 40% Business
Music and the music business are two different things – Tupac shakur

Well incase you dint know, there is also the business side of music and that’s were most artists fail. Most artists always complain about DJ’s not playing their music but hey, DJ’s got bills to pay and they need money too! As an artist, it’s important that you start saving some money for your Mixtape promotions, showcases, magazine features and more. You need exposure and that exposure won’t come for free! It’s not just about makin
