The Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network have plans in progress to host the First "Nigeria Youth Peace Summit". The event will be playing host to over a thousand young people from all the parts of Nigeria. The Summit is scheduled take place in the Youth House, Benin City.
CYPAN is a Network which identifies youth as key partners, actors for development and peace. Placing the youth at the centre for sustainable development and peace, providing programmes for capacity development, social innovation, and peace building.
“Young people are not only our future, they are our present. Our planet has never been so young, with more than 3.8 billion young women and men. They are the most connected, outspoken and the most open‐ minded generation the world has ever seen. They are powerful agents of positive change, essential to taking forward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. The Summit is to give youths a voice, to harvest, align and harmonize creative inputs on how to improve our communities, establish peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and unity in line with global best practices.
Nigeria has been plagued with different challenges and issues and the involvement of young people in violence among all other forms of social vices is at the increase. The National Youth Peace Summit/ International Peace Day brings together youth and young leaders from all regions within the Country together to deliberate on issues affecting Youths involved in violence, violent extremism, hate speeches, among others; and provide solutions and recommendations.
Effective youth programs are marked by high levels of youth inclusion and participation in line with United Nation Security Council Resolution 2250, not just as program beneficiaries, but as valuable resources to build the capacity, in designing the soft approach to conflict resolutions and transformation. With a view to make the youth own the process of peace building and become positive role models and voices in our communities, they are trained to be a voice mediating and advocating for peaceful cohesion and coexistence, through building a positive narrative which will lead to change in behavioural pattern and restore our National pride.
Highlights of the summit will include presentations to winners of the Nigeria Peace Essay Contest, Peace walk and Panels of discussion.
So what the organization want to do on the 21st of September is to take a peace march (movement) from the youth house @ akpakpava to the Governor's house to present the *torch of peace* which will involve over 1000 youths..... So we are trying to gather youth across d states who will volunteer 2 join in the peace walk. Souvenirs like T-shirts and caps will b giving 2 every participant.Odunze, Caleb Eberechukwu
